Welcome to the IBiS World Wide Web server.

These pages describe the Group's current research and development interests, principally the application of IT and multimedia to interactive learning systems development.  The focus of this work is (a) the design and development of an adaptive open learning system for use on the World Wide Web, and (b) the development and evaluation of advanced learning resources for distributed and distance learning in the field of environmental education.  Our system development work is discipline independent.

Current collaborators include The University of Hong Kong, the Natural History Museum London, the Biodiversity Consortium, the University of Witwatersrand, the University of Namibia, and the BBC Natural History Unit.  Internally at the University of Nottingham, we have collaborators in Computer Science and IT, Civil Engineering and Staff Development.

Our principal international project (1998-2001) is the Virtual School of Biodiversity, a distruted learning centre being developed in collaboration with The University of Hong Kong.
